The owl in the logo is not a barn owl, not a great horned owl, not any of the Halloween varieties.
It's a Little Owl, Athene noctua — the small bird native to the Greek countryside that the ancients believed sat on Athena's shoulder. Athena was the goddess of wisdom, and her bird was wisdom's symbol. Coins from Athens in the 5th century BC had her face on one side and the owl on the other. The owl meant thought. It meant seeing what others couldn't.
Two thousand years later, Hegel wrote a single line about that bird that has stayed with people who read seriously. The owl of Minerva spreads its wings only at dusk.
He meant that we don't understand a moment until it's already passed. That clarity comes late. That the present is mostly noise, and only in retrospect — at dusk, when the day's work is done — does the shape of it become visible.
It's a humbling line. It admits that real understanding is slow, that wisdom mostly catches up rather than races ahead. But it's also, quietly, a calling. Pay attention now, even if the meaning won't arrive for a while. The owl flies eventually.
The bird is in our logo because the brand believes the same thing. Most of what's worth knowing only becomes clear with time. Most of what's worth wearing isn't this season's. Most of what's worth saying is shorter than people think.
